SCHOOL EDUCATION DIAGNOSIS AND INDIGENOUS TEACHERS AND MANAGERS TRAINING PROJECT AT GUARANI DO RIO SILVEIRA VILLAGE - BERTIOGA/SP

Alongside Rio Silveira Village youth, leaders and teachers, Instituto Maracá developed the “School Education Diagnosis and Indigenous Teachers and Managers Training Project.”

In conversations with the community, we realized the village’s schools were sorely lacking, so we outlined a diagnostic proposal to identify the main issues and point to possible solutions.

Diagnosis work was done in 2017 through application of structured questionnaires, in-depth interviews and group discussions with community representatives and leaders, parents, students, teachers, non-indigenous school professionals, managers and delegates from the State and Municipal Secretariats, as well as participative on-site community and school observation.

School Education Diagnosis at Rio Silveira Village addresses the biggest difficulties and possible solutions as pertains to schooling. The document is structured into the following topics: the concept of school; political-pedagogical plan; community participation in schools; school management; curriculum; languages, reading and writing; teacher training and student counseling; instructional materials; school facilities; equipment and materials; school meals; and child education.

When it came to organizing and operationalizing the actions recommended in the diagnosis, we joined community members in developing the “Indigenous Teachers and Managers Training Project at Guarani do Rio Silveira Village Schools Txeru Ba'e Kuai and Nhembo'e'a Porã.”
